Congratulations to the Philippine Dragon Boat Team! Our very own three-time World Champions are roaring despite limited funding, clinching their back-to-back-to-back world title, new world records, and, the admiration of a country. Let’s support the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation!

Guinness names Filipino as world’s shortest man
A poor Filipino blacksmith’s son who stands less than two feet (60 centimeters) tall was declared the world’s shortest man by Guinness World Records on his 18th birthday last June 12, sparking a celebration in his far-flung hometown.
The title was bestowed on Junrey Balawing in Sindangan in the southern Philippines, with Balawing’s parents, villagers and officials showering the coastal town’s newly famous resident with a feast, a cake, balloons and cash gifts.
Balawing measured 23.5 inches (60 centimeters) during the ceremony attended by about 100 villagers and journalists. Guinness World Records representative Craig Glenday presented Balawing with official recognition of his status as the shortest adult man in the world.

Do not forget: We Filipinos are the first Asian people who revolted against a western imperial power, Spain; the first who adopted a democratic republican constitution in Asia, the Malolos Constitution; the first to fight the first major war of the twentieth century against another western imperial power, the United States of America. There is no insurmountable barrier that could stop us from becoming what we want to be.

Jose W. Diokno (my lolo)

except ourselves. we. can. do. it. if. we. believe.

Sometimes, the almost ritual self-flagellation we Filipinos like to inflict on ourselves prevents us from seeing the plain truth. But during at least two defining moments in our history, we outdid ourselves, and showed a path for the rest of the world.

In 1898, we were the first in all of Asia to establish a republic. And in 1986 we were the first in modern history to stage a people power revolution. True, much unfinished business remains - but the reality is we have been given the gift of a great start. It is a wonderful legacy we can use to our advantage, if only we put our minds to it and our shoulders to history’s wheel.

We remember.

The Philippines is such a crazy place, and yet you meet the sanest people in the world there.

My favorite quote about the Philippines. Will work this line into a film some day :)
